The Bridge Homelessness to Hope recently welcomed the Lord Mayor of Leicester, Councillor Teresa Aldred to our day centre to speak with our staff, trustees, volunteers and guests. Accompanied by her Consort, the Lord Mayor visited us during one of our busy breakfast food services. The visit provided an important opportunity to share our work, discuss the challenges we face, and highlight the support we offer to Leicester’s homeless community.

During her visit, the Lord Mayor took the time to speak with our staff, trustees, volunteers, and guests, gaining a deeper understanding of the difficulties faced by homeless individuals in the city. We had the chance to discuss the various services we provide, such as food provision, mental and physical health support, and assistance with access to Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) services. The Lord Mayor was also able to witness firsthand the increasing numbers of people who rely on our services daily.

“As someone who takes great pride in working within local communities, visiting The Bridge Homelessness to Hope gave me a real view into the challenges that the city's homeless people face. The charity is working so hard to deal with increasing numbers of homeless guests who depend on the services to support them, whether that be food provision, helping with mental and physical health, access to DWP staff and more.”

“We were very pleased to welcome the Lord Mayor and her Consort to our centre. The visit came at a time when we had a large number of guests in need of support, which gave the Lord Mayor a real sense of the scale of the issue. We also took the opportunity to discuss the ongoing challenges we face in providing services and how our work integrates with other organisations and the City Council to support homeless people in Leicester.”
