Volunteering at The Bridge – Homelessness to Hope

There’s an opportunity for almost anyone who shares our values and vision. No experience is necessary and you can get involved on a regular or ad-hoc basis, depending on your availability.

HELP OUT IN THE KITCHEN
We offer food services daily and are always looking out for hobby cooks or a helping hand.
OFFER YOUR FRIENDSHIP
A lot of the people we work with have lost touch with friends or family. Just talking with someone can make all the difference.
BECOME A DRIVER
If you have a car and could help out with food delivery please get in touch below.

MEET SOME OF OUR VOLUNTEERS

Without our volunteers we could not function. We are so proud of our volunteers and eternally grateful for the work they do and the part they play. Each of them has their own story and reason for working with us. They have kindly allowed us to video them talking about their experiences. Take a few moments to see what they have to say.

When can I volunteer?

We run sessions every week to offer food and friendship to some of the most vulnerable people in Leicester. Volunteers are needed to help at the following sessions which are all based at The Hope Centre, 43 Melton Street:

Sunday afternoon (15:30 – 17:00).
Thursday evening (18:30 – 20:00).
Monday to Friday mornings (06:00 – 08:00) Breakfast Service for rough sleepers

You can also volunteer on our Mentoring Project. Click here to find out more

What happens when I volunteer?

Depending on what you join us to do you could be meeting rough sleepers at breakfast, washing up or serving food at our evening service, meeting 1:1 with a mentee or taking part in our fundraising activities. All our volunteers seek to give direction, encouragement and practical help. Our Christian volunteers are always happy to discuss faith matters if requested.

WARM CLOTHES – FOOD – FURNITURE

Donate to The Bridge

We can’t do what we do without you. It’s as simple as that. Many local people rely on us for food, friendship and a chance to improve their futures. There are many ways you can help us continue with our life-changing work.

DONATE FOOD
Hunger is one of the biggest issues faced when on the streets. We appreciate any spare food you can donate - although please do check with us first so we are able to manage our food stocks and ensure food does not go to waste.
DONATE YOUR OLD CLOTHES
It can get very cold out on the streets. Please help us by donating the following items: coats, jumpers, gloves, hats, scarfs, thick socks, underwear, sturdy shoes and jeans.
DONATE FURNITURE
When we help get people off the streets, your old furniture could be in someones new living room.

DONATE FOOD

Could you make some extra sandwiches or a cake when you’re cooking for your family? All year round, we need homemade food. Please give us a guide “use by” date. Contact: Kath Lawson-West by using the form at the bottom of this page to describe what you would like to donate.

DONATE CLOTHES

It’s cold on the streets. We always need good quality clothing for men and women – especially jeans, coats, fleeces, new underwear, gloves, socks and trainers. Please use the form at the bottom of the page to get in touch with the team about donating clothes.

DONATE FURNITURE

Most of the people we support have very little. Even when they are ready to set up home by themselves, they need basic things that most of us take for granted.

We welcome good quality :
– Beds
– Wardrobes
– Chests of drawers
– Small arm chairs

Please note: All items must have a fire retardant label, to be legally compliant. We have nowhere to store furniture but we work closely with Emmaus at Hinckley who will collect it on our behalf. More information can be found at Donate Goods to Emmaus
